Sunday, December 2nd , 9:42 PM. This Topic is one I keep forgetting but its the simplest thing. For example purposes, lets say we wanted to create a paper and wanted to make the edges of the paper where the holes are to be 'see through' (transparent). Like so :
Download it here |
First step, you search on google for any paper texture ( most probably you already have yours) and open it up in photoshop. This is the paper i used http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs15/i/2007/073/c/6/Lines_paper_by_Ginnyhaha_Stock.jpg . In photoshop, you poke some holes on the side of the paper, or anywhere u want to be transparent with the eraser tool and save it somewhere maybe in jpeg format.
Second step, You create a new layer below in black so that the holes you put in the paper are showing the below layer which is black. Then a new layer between your paper and the black layer, just leave it the default transparent color.
Now, with the transparent layer selected, right click on a black hole in the paper with the magic wand tool and select color range, then click on invert. and ok. it should select an outline of everything that is not the color black. then all you have to do now is select paint bucket tool, select the color white, and paint the selected area white, make sure that the transparent layer is still selected, of course.
Now, unselect the paper layer and you should have a white image with black holes. Then just save that image by going to File>save as web and devices > and select the file format as PNG-24, check the transparency thng and save it somewhere maybe same place u saved the original paper with the holes in it.
Now you go to 3ds max, create a plane and stick the paper texture in the diffuse section and the PING-24 formatted image in the Opacity section and thats that. no configuration required.
Of Course, there are other ways to do it which are probably much easier, but thats how i normally do it.
You can download the 3ds max file and the photoshop shop file at Outstood Creative Design
